What This Team Has Delivered Together

A snapshot of the programs, milestones, and community work this team has built and supported across the Winnipeg Region.

Andrew Carrier, JoAnne Remillard, and David Beaudin — Winnipeg Region Executives

Since 2018, Team Winnipeg has remained committed to strengthening and supporting the Red River Métis community through leadership, advocacy, cultural preservation, and community-driven initiatives. Through collaboration with community members, Locals, volunteers, and leadership, Team Winnipeg has worked tirelessly to improve programs and services that directly impact Métis citizens and families throughout the Winnipeg Region.

During the COVID-19 pandemic from 2019 to 2021, Team Winnipeg played a vital role in supporting citizens through the COVID Food Supplement Program. This initiative helped provide food security and assistance to families during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. Continuing its commitment to food sustainability and community wellness, Team Winnipeg also coordinated the distribution of frozen pickerel and bison from 2020 through 2026, ensuring that traditional foods remained accessible to Métis families and Elders throughout the region.

Team Winnipeg has also focused heavily on supporting education and celebrating achievement within the community. From 2019 to 2024, the region proudly hosted the Annual High School and Post-Secondary Graduation Ceremony, recognizing the accomplishments of Métis graduates and encouraging future generations to pursue educational success. In addition, Team Winnipeg supported programs such as the Garden Box Program, which successfully delivered 308 garden boxes to community members, helping families grow fresh produce and encouraging healthy, sustainable living.

Community celebration and cultural pride remain central to Team Winnipeg's vision. In 2025, the region hosted its Annual Street Fest and participated in the Pride Parade, bringing together citizens, families, and allies in celebration of diversity, inclusion, and Métis culture. Team Winnipeg has also continued to support annual community gatherings such as the Rooster Town Picnic, as well as numerous Local events including picnics, May Teas, Christmas celebrations, and cultural gatherings throughout the region.

Significant accomplishments were also achieved in infrastructure, housing, and community development. Winnipeg Region assisted in the creation of two daycare centres, Louis Riel Day Care and Little Fox Day Care, helping provide accessible childcare services for Métis families. The region also supported the creation of Fre Marche transitional housing and initiatives supporting transitional homes for children aging out of Métis Child and Family Services. Team Winnipeg also promoted and supported over 1,500 new Red River Métis home buyers through the MMF New Home Buyer Program. These efforts reflect Team Winnipeg's ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable youth, young adults, seniors, and families.

Cultural preservation and environmental stewardship have also been key priorities. Team Winnipeg played an instrumental role in saving the historic Riel House from permanent closure and reallocation to St. Vital, preserving an important symbol of Métis history and heritage. The team also supported the protection of the Lemay Forest, reinforcing the importance of environmental conservation and community green spaces.

One of Team Winnipeg's greatest accomplishments has been the activation and growth of Locals throughout the region. In 2018, there were six active Locals. Through dedication, outreach, and ongoing support, that number increased to 11 by 2022 and expanded further to 16 active Locals out of 19 by 2026. Team Winnipeg consistently attended evening Local meetings, with each Local meeting a minimum of four times annually, strengthening communication and engagement with community members.

Additional achievements include welcoming 5,120 newly registered Red River Métis citizens in 2025 to 2026, maintaining community access to the Métis Club, paying off mortgages on the McGregor and Portage Avenue properties, organizing Winnipeg Region Annual Regional Meetings, and attending and presenting at all Manitoba Métis Federation Annual General Assemblies.

Through strong leadership, teamwork, and dedication, Team Winnipeg continues to build a stronger future for Red River Métis citizens while preserving culture, supporting families, and strengthening communities across the Winnipeg Region.

I am pleased to offer my full support for Andrew Carrier in his collaborative work with the City of Winnipeg on behalf of the Manitoba Metis Federation.
